EksitData gear

EksitData make a cool range of kit, with a gadget for almost any need. We've looked at their kit in the past, and we have a couple more gadgets here to show you.

WiFi Hotspots Finder: Ever been wandering around, desperate to try and find a WiFi spot to log onto? Of course, it's not exactly practical to wander around the centre of a city with your laptop open, so it's useful to have a little portable device to find you a signal.

This does exactly that. Press a button, and a row of lights will light up depending on the strength of any nearby signal. Of course, if there's no signal at all, you won't get any lights. The finder detects any signal in the 2.4GHz range (that's 802.11b, g, pre-N but not a).

At 32 Euros, it's rather expensive for what it is, we feel, especially since it doesn't tell you if the Hotspot is locked down and therefore useless for public access. If you have to have one, it does the job, but you might be better off just finding your nearest Starbucks.

Price: 32 Euros (about £20)
Verdict: Probably a bit rich and underfunctional for most.

Casebuy EZ Power Supply Tester II This second gadget tests that your power supply is fully functional by checking current coming through from each type of cable on your ATX PSU.

Operation is pretty simply, as is the concept. Simply plug in power supply cables to the tester, and a series of LEDs will tell you if voltage is being supplied on the correct rails. There is a 24-pin ATX socket, a socket for molex connectors and SATA connectors, one for floppy connectors and one for Pentium 4 connectors.

The tester does exactly what it says it does: it will tell you if there is voltage on the appropriate rail. Of course, what would be more useful would be if it told you how much current is on each rail, but we suppose that's what multi-meters are for. This will tell you if your power supply is duff, but it won't tell you if it's just sub-par, which can be just as aggravating when building a high-powered system.

Verdict: Does what it says it does, but probably a bit superflulous seeing as it doesn't really tell you anything you couldn't work out when your system doesn't power on.
